Autonomow have been working throughout 2025 with South Herts to test out various demonstrations of robotic solutions for fairways and their practice course.
Following much success at East Herts Golf Club using the Kress KR237 Sean decided the Kress system would suit their needs for winter fairways well.
here's what Sean had to say:
During November we made the decision to engage with AutonoMow for a trial for robot mowers. As a club on North London clay, we struggle from October to March in being able to maintain certain areas on the golf course due to soft ground conditions. Using our heavy ride on mowing equipment is not an option due to excessive tyre marking, which sparks great negativity amongst our members when being seen. We needed means to present the fairways at this stage of the year, whilst leaving no damage and preserving areas such as the fairways, which we have worked very hard on after a very stressful summer during 2025.
We initially trialed the Echo robot, thinking this would be the perfect machine. However, AutonoMow recommended we trial the Kress mower against this. After setting up the Echo on 2 fairways and the Kress on a single fairway for comparison, I was truly astonished. The quality of cut by the Kress and the final finish was fantastic and my entire team was delighted with the results. My committee and members were amazed to see the fairway so immaculately presented for November, when normally we would struggle to identify the definition between fairway and rough.
For us this trial gave us all we needed to convince and already convinced committee that we needed to purchase the Kress machine. We had a budget to spend that allowed us to purchase 3 Kress mowers. We have decided to use these machines to cut the fairways during the winter months on our main 18-hole course. Then in the main playing season these machines will maintain all the fairways and rough areas on our 9-hole course.
I will also add how impressed I have been with the support and overall customer service from AutonoMow during this process. Their knowledge and passion for this ever-growing industry made our decision even easier and affirmative. I would ask anyone considering just trial and see the results for yourself. The robot mowers have a place on the golf course and are a means to allow the main staff to focus on all the attention to detail items, that can often be neglected during times of high grass growth. They need to be seen as assistants to the main team and not seen as a threat in anyway!
